11 October 2019 saw the start of the 120th commemoration of the Anglo Boer War (1899–1902). Although South Africans attach exceptional meaning to the more than 100 white and black concentration camps and cemeteries from this time period, they are not considered Grade I National Heritage Sites. In March 2020, the HF will initiate the process to have concentration camp cemeteries declared as Grade I National Heritage Sites by the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA). We will keep you updated on the process.
