The Pietermaritzburg Heritage Society invites members of SAIA-KZN to share an outing and open day at House Dyer, the home of Mike and Marie, designed in 1954 by Pancho Guedes along with Mike as engineer. Examples of Pancho's work are rare in SA, so this is an ideal opportunity to experience at first hand a small part of his significant architectural oeuvre.

Michael Dyer was an engineer who became an architect and lecturer on Structures to students at the School of Architecture in Durban. Marie Dyer was a member of the Black Sash from 1956 and played an active role in the campaign against the injustices of Apartheid. It is fitting that this visit coincides with Human Rights Month and there will be a talk on her contribution to the Struggle.

Kirk White is documenting the house and will give a presentation on its architectural value, assisted by architects with a special interest in the work of Pancho. The original 'linen' submission drawing and a small selection of 'social history" photos of the family will be on display.
