I am searching for records of my great grandfather who we believe was in Pretoria in 1903-1904.

We know he was in Pretoria because we have photos of him taken by a photographer Feinberg who we know was active in 1903-1904,

I believe we should be able to find more information on a Permit to Enter or Immigration Register?

Unfortunately we do not know the surname he was using at the time. When he emigrated to Australia later, he changed his name to "Solomon". But we know for certain that he changed it apparently because it was unpronounceable in English.

Potential details to search include:

  • Name: Likely Movsha, Moshe, Morris, Morus
  • Birth: 1881 in Brest-Litovsk (Brisk/Grodno Governorate).
  • Nationality: Russian / Jewish.
  • Parents Names - Abraham Isaac and Rose Ruchetsky
  • The Task: Could you browse the CS (Colonial Secretary) Permit to Enter indices or registers for that period to see if you can find a "Movsha" or "Morris" born in Brest/Russia in 1881?  Or if you believe there is another way to find records for him please let me know.

Please let me know your hourly rate and if you are available to take this on and If you have any additional questions please let me know. Please contact me via micksolo@gmail.com

Thank you

Mick
