This is an opportunity for a student/freelancer with an interest in architecture, town planning, archaeology or history to research a heritage building in the Cape Town CBD in a very significant area, with the aim of:

  • uncovering old building plans / list of alterations plans / title deeds / street maps from the Cape Archives and other sources, books etc. (ideally finding original building plan when the building was constructed (pre 1896))
  • finding the earliest available picture of the street, the building itself (pre 1950) as well as surrounding buildings
  • establishing a history of the building and its use over the years. We are able to establish 4 owners of that building during the last 120 years from online research at the archived and the location is marked on city maps dating back to the 1780s

Compensation for this is negotiable with a fixed base and additional depending on material found. Please email info@bc88.co.za with short motivation and CV.
