Gas Works Blue Plaque - sourced by Kathy Munro

Starting from 1929, gas was produced from coal at this landmark site, until the gas factory was decommissioned in 1992. This remains the only gas works in the country with intact machinery, as can be seen from the oldest retort building. Part of the site remains in operation for the distribution of natural gas to Johannesburg and the surrounds.
