Recently I became got hold of of 2 small paintings made by J.E. Ennals. I don't know anything about this painter other than that it was a pastor possibly born in South Africa.
The first painting (watercolor) has a barely legible note in pencil with the text "boats on the Nile". This painting measures 23 x 8 Cm and is framed by "the picture shop" in London and bears number 2283. It must be made arround 1900-1920's.
The second painting is slightly larger, 25 x 10 cm and shows a view of a, possibly Italian, city. Unfortunately, the text in pencil is almost illegible, but we think we can see a year 1917. Also framed by "the picture shop" in London and bears the same number 2283.
On The Heritage Portal I found someone who offered paintings by this painter. That is why I was hoping someone from the community might be able to help with the following questions:
- Where can I find information about this painter?
- Are these valuable paintings and if so, what value should you expect?
- Is this a painter/person who is of any cultural or historical interest?
Depending on the answers, I can make a decision what I am going to do with these works. I am in Europe (Netherlands).
