Celebrating the 150th of Kalk Bay Dutch Reformed Church - 27 July 2026

Notice Expiry:

The Kalk Bay DR Church was inaugurated in April 1876, two years after Holy Trinity. Until that time a variety of private houses and a stable had been used as places of worship by DR congregants. It functioned as a church for about 75 years, initially as part of the Simon's Town - Kalk Bay Parish, and then independently. It was an important focal point in the community and also ran a Mission school. Andrew Murray jnr. worshipped and preached here during his holiday times at the house Patmos on Kalk Bay Point. In 1949 it and all the properties in the block were sold and in 1952 the new DRC was inaugurated in Fish Hoek.

So far the history of the DRC in Kalk Bay is untold. Barrie Gasson has done extensive research at the DRC Archives in Stellenbosch and will relate the full story.
