Join local historian Dr. Stephanie Victor on Saturday 29 August 2026 at 14:30 at the Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer Hall at the East London Museum when she explores the material culture of the German Settlers in the Eastern Cape - the everyday items, tools, and structures they built and lived with. These objects are far more than just functional artifacts; they embody the knowledge, resourcefulness, and cultural adaptation of a community carving out a new life in an unfamiliar landscape. Preserved in the Amathole and East London Museums, they evolved over generations into enduring symbols of community identity and shared heritage.

About the Speaker
Stephanie Victor was born in Paarl in the Western Cape and studied history at the University of Stellenbosch and subsequently at Rhodes University. She currently works as a historian at the Amathole Museum in Qonce (King William's Town)
