The Heritage Foundation (HF) was founded in 2002 as an independent, non-profit Section 21 Company with the aim of saving neglected heritage resources from destruction, and especially those that are of significance to the Afrikaans speaking section of the South African community.
The HF manages and/or owns various heritage sites nationwide that include the Danie Theron Monument in Fochville (Gauteng), the Mafikeng concentration camp cemeteries (North West), Boekenhoutfontein near Rustenburg (North West), the Kroonstad concentration camp cemetery (Free State), Retiefklip at Kerkenberg (East Free State), the Doornbult Concentration Camp site (Northern Cape), the Karel Landman Monument near Alexandria (Eastern Cape), the Bloukrans Monument site (KZN), O’Neil’s Cottage near Majuba (KZN) and the Louis Tregardt Memorial in Maputo. Members of the public, who are passionate about heritage conservation, can become paying members of the Heritage Foundation.
