I specialize in conservation surveys and historical, cultural and anthropological analysis. To date I have conducted 18 conservation impact studies of South African urban settlements, including Durban, Port Elizabeth, King Williams Town, Oudtshoorn and KwaMatabeleng. Today many of these reports are still being used by local administrations as their standard works of reference.
In addition I have published widely on heritage matters, and books on South African colonial settlement, mission stations, the architecture and planning of UKZN, Keiskammahoek, the architecture of King Williams Town, the Witwatersrand mines, and the historical centre of Johannesburg are in advanced stages of pre-publication work.
