Modderfontein’s 130-year-old history will be in the spotlight with a ‘Fact and Fable’ walk around the Heritage Precinct of Modderfontein Village on Heritage Day, Thursday 24 September.
The walk, starting at 09h00,will be guided by the Modderfontein Conservation Society’s heritage champion, Keith Martin. It is an urban amble round the village beginning at The Dynamite Company Museum at 2 Main Street, Modderfontein and includes historic Franz Höenig Haus and the Old Town Hall.
In addition to the walk, The Dynamite Company Museum will be open during the morning. This will give visitors the opportunity to see why the Modderfontein Dynamite Factory was called “A Power for Prosperity” in the area and how it contributed to the wealth and development of the country as a whole.
The walk is so popular that booking is essential. The cost is R50.00 a head and it lasts about two hours.
