SAHRA’s Maritime and Underwater Cultural Heritage (MUCH) is tasked with the identification, protection and management of maritime and underwater cultural heritage resources along South Africa’s coastline and in its maritime and inland waters. This maritime and underwater cultural heritage is rich and diverse. It includes approximately 2,400 shipwrecks. These wrecks relate to pre-European, Indian Ocean maritime exploration and trade along the South African east coast and provide a tantalising, but as up till now unproven potential element of South Africa’s maritime heritage.

It’s a pleasure to announce the MUCH Unit Team, which consists of Lesa la Grange, Briege Williams, and Alex Manatha. See short bios in the image above.
