Louis Botha was a brilliant young Boer General whose battlefield strategy won significant victories over the British. When British arms overwhelmed the Boers, Botha along with Smuts encouraged peace between English and Afrikaner. Botha led the four British colonies (Cape, Natal, Free State and Transvaal) to Union in 1910 and dominion status. He was the first Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa.
