Brian is the expert on Cape Town’s shipping history and widely revered in South Africa’s maritime world. For all his career he has been in the maritime world here. He co-founded the Simon’s Town Lawhill Maritime Centre, although he has recently retired, he remains actively involved. Many know his name from his weekly shipping column for the Cape Times. He is just finishing off his book, called Cape Town’s Dockland, which will available next year when we hope he’ll lead a tour for us there. He was the guest speaker for our tour at the Belmond Mount Nelson last year. – Part of his talk for us will include Union-Castle Line and its connection to the hotel.

This is the first time Brian has given this talk online. Please do join us. There will plenty of time for questions – it is a rare opportunity to find out about all about this vitally important and historic part of Cape Town.
