Jeremy Hazell Universal Access Consultant

In 1998 I was paralysed in a fall on Table Mountain, ending up in a wheelchair. I have a wheel I attach to my foot plates, which lifts the small front wheels off the ground, making me much more mobile. I helped the Platter’s Wine Guide to assess wine farm tasting rooms for access to wheelchair users. I did some work on the BRT systems for the Cape Town and Port Elizabeth (as it was then) municipalities. Subsequently I’ve contracted to Stellenbosch Municipality to review the universal access of all their buildings and CBD streets.

I’m the Chairperson of ChangeAbility in Stellenbosch, an NPO that works with PWDs in their four lower-income areas. In the absence of a professional association for UA consultants I am accredited to the International Association of Accessibility Consultants.

I also proofread academic dissertations.
