Members of the Elton Hill community are concerned that a development is threatening potential historic infrastructure from the original Syferfontein Farm. The stand in question is erf 34 Elton Hill Ext 3 located at 16 Syferfontein Road. Click here to view location on google maps. Although neighbours observed rezoning application notices, they never saw any Section 34 heritage notices and are wondering if any heritage professionals or groups have been consulted.

A nearby resident describes the structure as follows:

It is about 6 metres in diameter. It is bricked and about 1 metre above ground. It is about 2 metres on the inside and cemented with about a metre below ground level. A portion of this wall on the northern side has broken away. It appears as though at some later stage the structure was converted into a rondavel with two windows and a doorway, and a dividing wall on the inside. The roof has long since disappeared.

If anyone knows the history and significance of the structure or the status of any heritage application please email esti@tiscali.co.za.
