APHP members are cordially invited to a talk at our year-end function by Emeritus Professor Heinz Rüther: Digital Heritage Documentation, Methods, Examples and Challenges
The digital documentation of tangible heritage in the form of monuments, cultural landscapes, statues and rock shelters has, for the past 12 years, been the objective of the Zamani research project at the University of Cape Town. The project was previously know and as the âAfrican Cultural Heritage Sites and Landscapes Databaseâ. As the application of digital technologies mature and new technologies are added to the documentation tool box, there are also new challenges which are emerging. The presentation will briefly report on the objectives and status of the Zamani data collection, present the recently developed âTrans-Atlantic Slave Tradeâ and Swahili databases and show examples of recent or ongoing projects in Meroe in Sudan, Yemrehanna Christos in Ethiopia, Bagan in Myanmar as well as deformation monitoring in Great Zimbabwe.
