Fish Hoek Valley Historical Association is hosting an evening walk on Thursday 10 November 2016 from 17h45 for 18h00 til 19h30. The short walk, punctuated with about 20 stops, will focus on historical attractions and sites in the Central CBD as well as a section of the beach behind Town Square. Historical attractions and sites that spring to mind include a Medical Doctor, an Attorney, the Municipal offices, the fire engine, the police station, the railway station, the train turntable, two sport shops, a Post Office, a Watchmaker, the first fast food outlets, a motor garage, a bank, surf lifesaving, the Trek Fishermen, the beach cleaner Samson Mankayi and more.

Start Point: please assemble at De Kock Property Group offices, Central Road, Fish Hoek, where Heather Seymour and her staff will welcome you warmly and power you up with a tipple and snack. This will be followed by a brief talk by Heather on the legendary John J De Kock. Heather will show for the first time recently discovered portraits of Mr De Kock and, a portrait of Clive Duffell’s grandfather.

Finish Point: Outside Floral Abundance, Town Square.

Beverages and snacks will be available.

Leaflet. A leaflet will be given to participants. It will outline the walk and provide information on each site to be visited.

Fee: Members – R5-00. Non members – R10 pp.

Anecdotal Information. Association members as well as members of the public who have a story or two to tell re historical sites in the Central CBD and adjacent beach area are asked to please come forward soonest so that their knowledge can be used in the leaflet. They can also serve as “site guides” on the day. Specifically required is information on the Post Office once on the corner of Main and Central Roads.
