Join me to marvel at the multi-talented explorer William Burchell, on Friday, 20 March. His talents knew no bounds - naturalist, botanist, horticulturist, linguist, musician, artist, and even dabbling in geology and astronomy. We'll delve into his two volumes recounting his 7 000km South African journey between 1811 and 1815, beyond the colonial borders. We'll pore over his annotated map, before gasping at his vast collection of drawings, paintings and sketchbooks. A feast for the eyes.
And I'll recount my close encounter with him in 2013!
