I am chuffed that Emeritus Prof Jo Noero and founding director Pippa Haarhoff will be showing us around the amazing West Coast Fossil Park, Langebaanweg, on Sat 9 April, 11am to 1:30pm. It is world-renowned for its exceptionally well-preserved fossil and faunal remains approx 5.2 million years old. Designed by Noero Architects, nature and architecture sit in an oscillating relationship, neither dominating the other.

11am start with an intro over refreshments, then at 11:15am tour of the museum and dig site. 1:30pm optional lunch at their good and reasonably priced restaurant run by the West Coast Chefs School.

I thoroughly recommend a visit - it is well worth the drive (an hour and a half from Cape Town). Please also consider a donation - they are a not-for-profit and income has been hit hard because of fewer international visitors with the pandemic.

  • Cost: R300 per person, including the entrance fee, paying by 1 April, otherwise R375 each; R50 discount for children, students and seniors. The fee excludes refreshments and lunch.
