Meet at 13h00 on Friday 19th October at the Barberton Museum for a short briefing prior to departure in 4 x 4 vehicles provided by Mpumalanga Heritage â 3 guests per vehicle. Roger Fisher will point out various NZASM sites along the Barberton Branch Line route. Roger Fisher co-authored the groundbreaking publication NZASM Footsteps Along the Tracks (published in August 2017) with former student Nicholas Clarke and assisted by Siphiwe Simelane. The NZASM was a Dutch company that constructed and operated railway lines in the former Transvaal Republic during 1887â1902.

Gerrit Haarhof will then retrace the footsteps of Percy Fitzpatrick and his famous dog Jock. Dr Haarhoff has carried out extensive research on the old wagon trails and transport routes and has recently published a book on the subject titled Forgotten Tracks and Trails of the Escarpment and the Lowveld.
