Tour of Northwards with Neil Viljoen - 11 October 2026

Notice Expiry:

Join the SA Archaeological Society for a not-to-be-missed tour of “Northwards”, a mansion on top of the Parktown Ridge. The house was designed by Baker, Masey and Sloper in 1904 for John Dale Lace, owner of the Lace Diamond Mine, and his glamorous wife, José, whose endless receptionsand dinner parties were the talk of high society in early Johannesburg.

The house is situated on the Parktown Ridge and, since the jacarandas should be in full bloom on the day, it is the best place to view the many jacarandas of the golden city.

Dr Neil Viljoen will be our guide. He is an expert on Northwards house and the many colourful characters who called Northwards home. He will take us on a tour from cellar to attic.

Following the tour, we will enjoy a picnic (optional and at own account) in the magnificent gardens.
