The Border Historical Society (BHS) invite you to join Peter-John Case for a talk on South Africa's first Grand Prix, held in East London in 1934, and on his grandfather, Herbert Case's remarkable achievement on the day.
Herbert Case drove a Ford V8 with a standard engine and came second behind the international driver, Whitney Straight, driving a Masarati. Herbert Case's average speed was 76 mph / 122 km/h.
Herbert Case was then a salesman at Scott Brothers (later Scott Brothers and Greaves) in the Queenstown (now Komani).
The talk will be held on Saturday, 20 September 2025 at 2:30 PM in the Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer Hall at the East London Museum
Peter-John Case was born in Port Elizabeth in 1976, son of John and Ursula Case. He matriculated from Dale College in 1994, thereafter studied at Unisa and obtained a National Diploma in Horticulture. He subsequently qualified in Scaffolding as an inspector / fall protection planner, and has his own business. Peter-John Case lives in East London.
