We are most honoured and delighted to have none other than Professor Hermann Giliomee come to our association and give us a talk.

Professor Giliomee studied history at the University of Stellenbosch. He subsequently worked for the Department of Foreign Affairs and lectured at the University of Stellenbosch.
From 1983 to 1998 he was Professor in Political Studies at the University of Cape Town. From 1995 to 1997 he was president of the South African Institute of Race Relations.

He is currently an extraordinary professor and research associate of the Department of History at the University of Stellenbosch and is of course well known for the series “Die Afrikaners” currently airing on KykNet.

Professor Giliomee is also the author and co-author of numerous books (I counted at least 16!) of which, some of the Afrikaans books have been translated into English.

The title of Professor Giliomee’s talk which will be given at 12h00 on Thursday the 13th of September in Die Drostdy Schuur is titled “The Rebellions of Graaff-Reinet and Swellendam of 1795 and a brief comparison with the transition in South Africa in the early 1990s.”  This is clearly a talk not to be missed.

There will be a light lunch and wine served after the talk which will give you a chance to catch up with friends as well as chat to our speaker.
