A Moot farmer, General Hendrik Schoeman's vision to irrigate land and create jobs in the 1880s came true in September 1923. Hartbeespoort was developed to irrigate lands for a better food supply. Today Harties is a world-class tourist destination. It is the only place in Magaliesberg with Cableway access to enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains. It has many world-class game parks, mountain hikes, water sports, and other activities.
