My name is Ray Withnall and I am a researcher specialising in World War 2 in the Far East. I am currently looking for information on evacuees who left Singapore in January 1942 and were relocated in Cape Town.
I am enquiring to see if anyone from the community has information on the above. My particular subjects are Kate Coulson and her six year old daughter Eileen. I know they spent some time in Cape Town before they sailed to Britain in 1945 on the Athlone Castle. They are the family of Norman Coulson who was left behind in Singapore.
I have copies of postcards sent from Cape Town to Norman in Singapore. The home address on the postcards reads ‘Care of Standard Bank, Adderley Street, Cape Town.
Does anyone have general information as to what it was like in Cape Town between 1942 and 1945. For example schools, living conditions or even general articles on the evacuees from Singapore. Any information would be useful and full accreditation would be given in my articles and books.
