Looking for people with memories of the old Herschel Hotel at the top of Grove Avenue in Claremont, Cape Town. The main building of the hotel was previously the home of the astronomer and educationist Sir John Herschel and called Feldhausen. When I lived there as a child from 1949 to 1953, the hotel was owned and run by the Swift family and then the Greenberg family. At one stage it was a hostel for Bishops boarders. The building was demolished in the late 1950s, and the site is now occupied by a synagogue.
