The Modderfontein Conservation Society is pleased to announce the return of renowned historian Professor Kathy Munro as the guest speaker for our upcoming Saturday talk on 31 January 2026.

In an illustrated and compelling presentation, Professor Munro will explore the life and enduring legacy of Sir Herbert Baker, the visionary architect whose work defined an era of empire. While Baker is perhaps most celebrated for the iconic Union Buildings in Pretoria and the solemn memorials of the Great War, his influence stretched across the civic and ceremonial landscapes of South Africa, Britain, and India.

The afternoon holds a personal significance for the speaker as well. "I have a special attraction to Modderfontein as I grew up there," Professor Munro notes. "Even as a young child, I had an interest in Modderfontein history." Her family ties to the area run deep, as her father served with AECI from 1947 to 1985.
