Battle for the Cape 1778 - 1806 by Ian van Oordt is our Zoom talk on Thurs, 11 Nov (Remembrance Day). It is the title of Ian's new book which took him and his wife, Barbara, 15 years of meticulous research and planning. They even visited Nottingham in the UK, where I was born, to go to the archives there.

Why did Britain want the Cape? Who were the people involved in these three battles? This will be a fascinating, easy to understand history, especially with the illustrations by Estelle Laubscher commissioned for the book. More info.

R75 per login, paid ten days in advance, then R100. No charge for full time students and Culture Connect collaborators.

Email kate@cultureconnectsa.com to book.

Image from Old Cape Highways by E E Mossop, available as an ebook. It is the scene of one of the battles. Might you be interested in a tour of the sites of Battle of Muizenberg (including Simon's Town), Battle of Blaauwberg (including Melkbosstrand)? At Wynberg (and Retreat) there is less to see.
