I’m writing a book on tidal pools around the world. Obviously I’m including 15-20 pools from South Africa as these are some of the finest anywhere. I’m struggling to find very much about some of them and wondered if this is something the Heritage Community can help with? I’m writing 100-300 words about each depending on what I uncover. I’m looking for the basic information as to when it was built & architect/engineer (if there was one), but also stories about its significance in the country’s history.

My list is as follows:

  • Strandfontein & Monwabisi -  which is the biggest in the southern hemisphere?!
  • Dalebrook
  • Millers Point
  • Wooleys
  • Kalk Bay pools
  • St James
  • Ficks &/or Marine Pool, Hermanus
  • Harmony Park – totally unique design
  • Maidens Cove
  • Glencairn

And these which I’m yet to research:

  • Amanzimtoti
  • Thompson’s Bay (Charlie’s Pool)
  • Chaka’s Rock Pool
  • Margate Tidal Pools
  • Granny’s Pools
  • King’s Tidal Pool
  • Sedgefield
  • Quanza Pools / Orient
  • Brighton Beach

Any information would be welcome. Thank you in advance.
