Are you attached to Modderfontein? Would you like to see development impact on and maybe even destroy aspects of Modderfontein’s heritage? If your answers to these two questions are YES and NO, please see the letter below from our Heritage Champion, Keith Martin and lend your support to this initiative. By participating in the Heritage Impact Assessment we will be assisting in preserving the Heritage at Modderfontein as well as making the developers in the area aware of our concern regarding our valuable Heritage buildings.

Dear MCS Members and friends

The further development of Modderfontein is raising its head yet again. M&T, the new owners of the large tracts of land at Modderfontein and current developers, have commissioned the above study. This statutory requirement is needed where development will impact on Heritage structures.

It is understood that the current study covers inter alia the houses on the east side of High Street, all of which date from the late 1890s era.

M&T propose to erect low density dwellings on the property behind these houses (Piston Ring site).

A Public Participation meeting which is a statutory requirement, is to be held on Saturday 18 November 2017 at 11h00 at Heritage Haven, which is located in Central Court in Modder Crest Office Park (at the top of High Street). The practitioner conducting the study will be presenting information regarding the study.

If you are able to attend please drop me an email. If you are unable to attend, please send me an email with details of your name, cell phone/landline numbers and email address, as well as comments, if applicable, in order that you may be registered as an Interested and Affected Party.

By participating in the Heritage Impact Assessment we will be assisting in preserving the Heritage at Modderfontein as well as making M&T aware of our concern regarding our valuable Heritage buildings.

If you know of anyone else who has an interest in preserving the heritage of Modderfontein and would like to be involved in and receive information on this impact assessment please ask that they make a submission to the above address.

Thank you
