The Swellendam Heritage Association is proud to announce the launch of the association's latest publication: "Die Leiwater van Swellendam"

The book is a comprehensive description of the history of the irrigation furrows and the part the played in the growth of the town. Initially for the supply of water for domestic use and garden irrigation, then also to supply water for the of grinding wheat and making of bricks for building purposes. Unfortunately, the irrigation system is falling into disuse, thus the research team have recorded the coordinates of the different irrigation furrows in the book, to allow interested parties in the future to be able to follow the routes of these furrows.

The book contains many colour photos and consists of 137 pages. There is also a fold-out map that can be used to follow the various irrigation furrow’s routes as described in the book.
