The National Heritage Council of South Africa (NHC) and Freedom Park will close off Youth month with a Heritage Lecture on the June 16 liberation struggle icon, Tsietsi Mashinini under the theme 'Accelerating youth economic emancipation for sustainable future'.

The Tsietsi Mashinini Heritage Lecture will take place on Friday, 30 June, from 10h00 – 13h00 at Freedom Park in Pretoria.

The morning of the lecture will commence with a wreath laying in honour of the unsung hero of the Soweto Youth Uprising, Tsietsi Mashinini. Mr Seth Mazibuko will deliver a keynote address. Ms Matshiliso`Doris`Mhlambo, Mr Manase Sefatlhe, Ms Boitumelo Mofokeng and Professor Kealeboga (Aka Joe June16) Maphunye will form part of the panel for the Tsietsi Mashinini Heritage Lecture.

The panellists including Mr Mazibuko were part of the Soweto June 16 march 47 years ago. Learners from the Morris Isaacson High School, family representatives of Tsietsi Mashinini; government representatives together with members of of the National Heritage Council and the June 16 Foundation will attend the lecture.

Through the NHC’s programme, Resistance and Liberation Heritage Route (RLHR), the NHC is intending to remind South Africans about the sacrifices that accompanied the struggle for the attainment of democracy.
