Joline Young Heritage Consultancy

Joline Young is a heritage consultant with an MA in Historical Studies (Distinction) from UCT and is currently pursuing a PhD in Linguistics at the Centre for African Studies, UCT, for which she was awarded an ERC scholarship. She is an accredited ETDP Seta facilitator and site guide who specialises in primary archival and social history research, community research projects, heritage assessments, museum curation, and property history.

Joline is well known for her historical walks in Simon's Town and Cape Town (by appointment) and gives historical talks covering a wide range of topics related to South African history, with a particular specialisation in Cape slavery. She is the author of An Uncomfortable Paradise: A history of indigenous dispossession and slavery in Simon's Town and Lucy's Dream, a local history educational resource book for Grade 4 children. Her creative work includes the short story July which received an Honorable Mention from J.M. Coetzee and is published in African Pens (Jacana). Joline is published both academically and creatively, and also provides heritage tourism training.
