Far West Gold Recoveries (Pty) Ltd (FWGR) propose to develop a Regional Tailings Storage Facility (RTSF) as part of a tailings reclamation project near Fochville in the Gauteng Province. FWGR plans to retreat tailings from the West Rand Tailings Retreatment Project (WRTRP). The retreated tailings will then be deposited onto a new storage facility – the RTSF.

The RTSF development footprint area includes three buildings that are older than 60 years old:  Ste-017, Wf-018 and Wf-020. These buildings are located on Portion 7 of the farm Wildebeestkuil 360 and Portions 7, 11 and 13 on the farm Cardoville 364 IQ. These three structures must be demolished for the RTSF Project to go ahead.

FWGR has appointed Digby Wells Environmental to undertake a Destruction Permit Application process for the demolition of structures within the RTSF Development Footprint in accordance with Section 34 of the National Heritage Resources Act, 1999 (Act No. 25 of 1999) (NHRA), the NHRA Regulations and all applicable local by-laws and regulations.

Any Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) who wish to comment on the Application are invited to do so in writing to: The Provincial Heritage Resources Authority Gauteng (PHRA-G): noluthando.cembi@gauteng.gov.za or tebogo.molokomme@gauteng.gov.za and Digby Wells Environmental (Ms. Thembi Zulu) at Tel: (011) 789 9495; Fax: (011) 789 9498; Email: sh@digbywell.com.
