On this 75th anniversary of the African mine workers’ strike, the National Heritage Council (NHC) will pay tribute to John Beaver Marks – fondly known as JB Marks through a virtual public lecture to be delivered by Dr Kennedy Mahlatsi, a Free State Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) member of the South African Communist Party. 

Born in Ventersdorp, in the North-West Province JB Marks was a teacher by profession. He joined the ANC in 1928, after joining the ANC, he became acquainted with Albert Nzula, the first African to become General Secretary of the Communist Party.

The NHC intends to keep alive the heritage of this unsung martyr who contributed to the liberation of South Africa and all workers throughout the world.
