Downtown Music Hub is proud to announce that it has been awarded a Blue Plaque by the City of Johannesburg. The Blue Plaque officially recognises Downtown Studios as part of the heritage of the city.

A Blue Plaque is a prestigious award given to cultural sites and organizations that have contributed significantly to the cultural and historical heritage of the City. Downtown Music Hub is honoured to be recognised by the City of Johannesburg for its exceptional contribution to the music industry, and the cultural landscape of the City.

Downtown Studios has played a role in providing world-class recording facilities which have produced global hits such as those of Hugh Masekela, Lucky Dube, Paul Simon, Miriam Makeba, Simply Red, Kirk Franklin, Oliver Mtukudzi, U2, and Angelique Kidjo. The hub continues to support musicians through its facilities and programs such as the Music Business Incubator and Music-In-Schools. The organization partners with the music industry, the community, as well as both public and private sector, to create platforms that nurture talent, develop music entrepreneurs, and contribute towards an integrated and resilient industry that is conducive to the creation of sustainable businesses and job opportunities.

"We are delighted to receive this recognition from the City of Johannesburg. It's an honour to have our studios officially included as part of the city's heritage. We are very proud of our contribution to the cultural and historical landscape of Johannesburg." says the CEO of Downtown Music Hub, Mpume Mabuza.

The Blue Plaque is an acknowledgment of Downtown Music Hub's commitment to cultural preservation, dedication to the production of top quality music and music education.
