The Van Plettenberg History Society is pleased to invite everyone to its Annual General Meeting at 17h30 for 18h00 on Thursday, the 8th of November at its new – and possibly more appropriate – venue: the Anglican Church Hall of St Peters in Church Street, on the way down to the Plettenberg Hotel from the Main Road in the Central Business District.

Our speaker at this event will be a semi-retired tax practitioner, who now works as a recruitment consultant, Ms Shayne van Rensburg. Married to Roy, Shayne lives on a small-holding adjacent to the Airport Road, where she is kept busy with family, friends, dogs, walking, and – most importantly – the subjects of history and family history.

Having just retired from working for the Ward Committee of Ward 7 and after several years’ involvement in local civic affairs, Shayne has also run the Comrades Marathon three times, travelled “a fair bit” (as she says), often in pursuit of historical facts.

Shayne drew her very first family tree at the age of 14 and took up the hobby again with ever-increasing interest when the Van Rensburgs moved to Plettenberg Bay in 2008.
At the Van Plettenberg Society’s Annual General Meeting on November the 8th, therefore, Shayne will present some guidelines on creating or refining your own family trees and relate some of the intriguing stories and experiences she’s enjoyed over the years, as well as being ready to answer your own questions on the subject.
