Mandela Bay citizens have expressed deep concern about the deterioration of the historic King Edward Hotel that keeps watch over the Donkin Reserve. The hotel was built in the early 1900s and was designed by the firm Jones and McWilliams (click here for more details via Artefacts). Unfortunately, the building is in a chaotic state. Walls are crumbling, historic fittings and fixtures have been stolen, vagrants have moved in and the area surrounding the building is covered with debris and dirt.

The owner lives overseas and is represented by Mr Kuban Chetty in South Afirca. The local heritage society has been unable to get a response from Mr Chetty. If anyone has any suggestions on how to contact him or any suggestions on how to ensure the preservation of this landmark structure please contact Lyn Haller on 041 368 9008 or 082 302 2690.
